Summary:

Under the general direction of the Senior Production Manager, this position will lead and oversee all elements of production in the Metal Shop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct daily activities in the metal shop, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, and to quality standards.
  • Implement strategies to enhance safety, morale, and productivity, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Supervise, train, and provide guidance to Machine Operators and Laborers, ensuring compliance with processes and work instructions.
  • Conduct performance reviews, address any issues proactively, and enforce adherence to policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Oversee production schedules, prioritize incoming orders, and ensure production accuracy per specifications.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering to address design changes, tooling adjustments, and new program requirements.
  • Review key performance metrics daily, participate in accountability meetings, and produce ad-hoc reports for management to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee material orders (MOs), manage inventory, control overtime, and schedule resources to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ensure effective resource allocation while maintaining a clean, organized department.
  • Identify and implement improvements in methods, equipment, and efficiency.
  • Promote 5S standards, encourage problem-solving at all levels, and ensure issues are standardized and communicated across teams.
  • Supervise the selection of new equipment and tooling, preparing budget justifications for necessary improvements in department operations.
  • Coach and mentor team members to foster problem-solving skills and support their professional growth within the organization.
  • Perform additional supervisory duties as required to support department and organizational goals.

Requirements and Skills: 

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Proven supervisory experience in a manufacturing or metal shop environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to assess and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Outlook, and other Office programs; experience with MRP systems (MS Dynamics or similar) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of CNC Turret Punching Machines, Spot Welding, Press Brake, and Stud machines.
  • Ability to perform basic math 
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
