Summary:
The West Africa Local Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving company growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, building strong relationships with distributors and partners, and developing strategies to increase revenue. This role also focuses on technical engagement, product positioning, and market development within the West African region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify potential distributors through proactive market research and outreach.
- Prepare commercial offers and conduct value engineering for project proposals.
- Lead prequalification processes with consultant engineers and developers through in-person or online meetings, including technical specification writing.
- Deliver Lunch and Learn sessions and technical seminars.
- Review vendors’ and end users’ websites as well as key developers’ applications to identify opportunities.
- Respond to distributors’ technical clarification emails, conduct product technical presentations, prepare compliance statements, and support ESD teams with local authority product testing, approvals, and UL documentation.
- Attend local project meetings as required.
- Arrange meetings with leads received through the company website, LinkedIn, email, or other sources.
- Convert web-based inquiries into new sales opportunities and identify new ESDs across Africa.
- Coordinate participation in local exhibitions and trade shows such as Intersec.
- Conduct local market competitor analysis.
- Prepare technical case studies and update the installation portfolio to support ongoing business development activities.
Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related technical field.
- Proven 5 to 10 year experience in proposal engineering, technical sales, or distribution support within the fire detection, low-voltage, or building systems industry is an asset.
- Strong ability to prepare commercial offers, conduct value engineering, and interpret technical specifications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead meetings, seminars, and product presentations for consultants, developers, distributors, and end users.
- Proficiency in preparing compliance statements, technical documentation, and supporting product approvals or certifications.
- Strong capability in conducting market research, competitor analysis, and identifying new distributors or end users through online platforms and industry sources.
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams and supporting participation in industry events, exhibitions, and trade shows.
- High level of organization with the ability to manage multiple leads, meetings, and projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in documentation, presentations, and case study preparation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing shifting priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, CRM systems, and online meeting platforms.
- Must be able to accommodate work hours aligned with the EST time zone.
- Occasional travel within assigned regions is required for meetings, events, site visits, and distributor support.
- Must be fluent in English and French.
- Must hold a valid passport for travel.
