Summary:

The Manager, National Project Management is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and consistency of project delivery across all Canadian branch offices. This role provides direct management and mentorship to Project Managers and Project Coordinators, ensuring fire alarm installation projects are executed safely, profitably, on schedule, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. The National Project Manager acts as the link between corporate strategy and field execution, standardizing project management practices, resolving escalated technical and financial issues, and driving continuous improvement across the national project portfolio. Projects include fire alarm installations in commercial, educational, healthcare, and industrial facilities, with high visibility to senior leadership and key external stakeholders. This is a full time role based from our Head Office in Vaughan, ON with occassional travel nationally.

Key Responsibilities:

National Project Oversight & Governance 

  • Provide national oversight of all active projects across branch offices.
  • Establish and maintain standardized project management processes, tools, and reporting.
  • Monitor overall project performance including schedules, labour efficiency, material costs, margins, and revenue recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, contracts, and company policies.
  • Identify systemic risks and proactively implement corrective actions.

People Leadership & Development 

  • Directly manage, coach, and mentor Project Managers and Project Coordinators across Canada.
  • Set performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and support career development.
  • Provide guidance on complex project challenges including technical, contractual, and customer issues.
  • Support onboarding and training of new project management staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement 

  • Analyze national project trends, KPIs, and lessons learned.
  • Recommend improvements to systems, staffing models, and workflows.
  • Support annual planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Contribute to long-term growth strategies for the projects organization.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership 

  • Work closely with Sales, Service, Engineering/Applications, Finance, and Operations leadership.
  • Support major client relationships, consultants, contractors, and AHJs as required.
  • Participate in high-level client meetings, site walkthroughs, and WIP reviews.
  • Represent the company on committees or industry initiatives related to codes and standards (as required).

Technical & Escalation Support 

  • Act as the escalation point for complex technical, code-related, and design issues.
  • Support resolution of projects at risk of delay, over-budget, or customer dissatisfaction.
  • Provide expert input on change orders, scope disputes, and contract interpretations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering/Applications and Service teams on technical best practices.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Electrical, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • Fire alarm certification(s) (e.g., CFAA, or provincial equivalents) are a strong asset.
  • 6-8+ years of progressive project management experience within fire alarm systems, life safety, electrical, or construction environments.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale, multi-site projects across multiple regions.
  • Demonstrated success leading, mentoring, and developing Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
  • Experience overseeing full project lifecycles, including estimating support, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and close-out.
  • Strong background in managing projects within commercial, healthcare, educational, and/or industrial facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire alarm systems, installation practices, and commissioning processes.
  • Strong understanding of applicable Canadian codes and standards (e.g., CAN/ULC, provincial and local AHJ requirements).
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Experience resolving complex technical, operational, and compliance issues.
  • Proven ability to align field execution with corporate strategy and financial objectives.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with experience driving consistency and accountability across geographically dispersed teams.
  • Track record of improving project delivery processes, standardizing best practices, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage escalated client, financial, and performance issues with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Strong understanding of project financials, including cost control, forecasting, margin management, and change management.
  • Experience managing high-value project portfolios with visibility to senior leadership.
  • Ability to analyze data and KPIs to drive performance and decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with senior leadership, clients, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and subcontractors.
  • Comfortable operating in a high-visibility role with national impact.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel nationally as required.
