Summary:

Mircom is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to drive sales growth and provide technical sales support throughout the Pacific Northwest. This hybrid position combines business development, territory management, and field-level technical expertise. The successful candidate will develop new Mircom ESD/dealer relationships, grow existing accounts, identify and develop project opportunities, and work directly with dealers, engineers, electrical contractors, consultants, and end users to help design and specify Mircom solutions. The individual will serve as both a sales leader and technical resource in the field, helping customers select the appropriate Mircom products and system architecture while supporting opportunities from initial concept through specification, quotation, and project award.

The Pacific North West Business Development Manager/Field Sales Engineer will oversee the following state(s): Kansas, Nebraska, S. Dakota, N. Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve or exceed territory revenue, customer, and market share targets through new business development (events, trade shows, referrals, networking, and face-to-face sales calls) 
  • Collaborate with internal teams on sales and conversion strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong customer and channel relationships by profiling and supporting dealers/ESDs, recommending service actions.
  • Conduct follow-up and ongoing outreach, and educating customers, engineers, consultants, contractors, and end users on Mircom solutions and industry trends.
  • Provide pre-sales technical leadership by assisting with product selection, system architecture, applications, and solution design; reviewing plans, specifications, device counts, and riser concepts.
  • Supply technical input for quotations and value engineering; addressing technical questions; and acting as the technical bridge between customers and internal teams.
  • Promote Mircom products and brand by delivering product demos, technical presentations, and Lunch & Learn sessions.
  • participate in industry events, trade shows, and association activities; and supporting the introduction and field adoption of new products and technologies.
  • Support channel development and training by helping dealers understand Mircom’s portfolio and target markets, and supporting training on technology, products, sales skills, project registration, and related topics.
  • Drive market and product feedback by gathering market intelligence, identifying opportunities in key growth verticals, and providing structured field feedback to Product Management, Engineering, and Sales leadership on customer needs, competitors, product enhancements, and emerging trends.
  • Maintain professional and regulatory expertise by staying current with applicable fire alarm and life safety codes, standards, and industry requirements within the territory. 

Requirements and Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related technical field; equivalent education and industry experience will be considered.
  • 3+ years in technical sales, business development, or sales engineering, ideally in fire alarm, life safety, building systems, or related low-voltage markets is an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of fire alarm and life safety systems; familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, building and fire codes) is an asset.
  • Proven record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and growing territory revenue, market share, and customer base.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn technical requirements into practical solutions, including system design, product selection, and value engineering.
  • Experience working with channel partners (dealers, distributors, ESDs) and supporting a territory-based partner network.
  • Strong relationship-building, account management, and communication skills, with experience engaging engineers, consultants, contractors, and end users.
  • Confident presenter, able to deliver product demos, technical presentations, and training sessions.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, strong ability to manage multiple projects and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and MS Office (or equivalent) for pipeline management, forecasting, and proposals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of PC based applications (Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint & Excel)
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the territory for customer visits and events
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must reside within the territory mentioned for the role.
  • Hold a NICET certification is a bonus.
