Summary:
The bi-lingual Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assemblies with a strong emphasis on Surface Mount Technology (SMT). This role ensures high-quality, efficiency, and scalable production while supporting new product introduction (NPI), continuous improvement initiatives, and operational excellence within the PCB manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience in SMT processes, equipment, and quality standards, and will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams. This is a full time permanent role based out of our facility in Pointe Claire, QC.
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Process Development:
- Develop, implement, and optimize PCB assembly manufacturing processes, with a focus on SMT production lines and final assembly of life safety products.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by defining process flows, work instructions, and tooling requirements.
- Design and improve manufacturing layouts to enhance throughput, quality, and efficiency.
- Conduct process capability studies and implement improvements to achieve production targets.
- Create Capital projects to drive productivity and safety through automation.
SMT Process Engineering:
- Optimize SMT processes including solder paste printing, pick-and-place efficiency, reflow soldering, AOI, SPI, and inspection processes.
- Troubleshoot SMT line issues and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support machine programming, line balancing, and cycle time improvements.
- Work closely with equipment vendors and maintenance teams to ensure optimal machine performance.
Quality & Continuous Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies.
- Support PFMEA development, control plans, and process validation activities.
- Analyze yield, defect trends, and production data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluation & First Article Approval for changes to manufacturing site, process changes or improvements, supplier or material changes, or design changes.
- Implement error-proofing (poka-yoke) and process controls to reduce defects.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Product Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure manufacturability of new designs (DFM/DFT).
- Support production teams in resolving technical issues on the manufacturing floor.
- Participate in audits, process reviews, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and training to operators and technicians.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process maps, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to PCB manufacturing.
- Support internal and external audits such as ISO, FM, and UL, as required.
- ECO technical review, approval, assessment and execution through change management.
Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in hands on PCB manufacturing, with strong expertise in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) environments.
- Hands-on experience with SMT equipment such as pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, AOI, and SPI systems.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) in electronics manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of PCB assembly processes and electronics manufacturing.
- Experience with DFM, DFT, and process validation.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, routings, and manufacturing data analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, Gerber files, and BOMs.
- Fluent in both English and French (spoken and written).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in high-mix, medium-to-high volume PCB manufacturing environments.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher).
- Experience with automated manufacturing.
- Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721, etc.).
