Summary:

The successful candidate in this role will define and own the end-to-end production and validation test strategy for PCBs and electronic equipment used in life safety products. You will create test requirements, develop detailed test plans/protocols, and ensure compliance with UL and other applicable standards. The position involves designing and building test fixtures and equipment, developing and maintaining test software, and taking full accountability for the quality and reliability of the test process. You will work closely with product design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure products are testable and manufacturable, support design reviews with DFT input, and drive continuous improvement by analyzing test data to troubleshoot issues, improve yield, and reduce cycle time. The role also includes performing Measurement System Analysis using Six Sigma methods (stability, bias, repeatability/reproducibility), conducting risk assessments, keeping test systems current, and training production/engineering teams—especially during NPI—to ensure successful deployment and ongoing support of test processes. This is a full time permanent role based out of our facility in Vaughan, ON.

Responsibilities:

  • Define test requirements and methodologies for PCBs and electronics equipment used in life safety products.
  • Develop detailed test plans, protocols, and procedures to ensure product quality and compliance with UL and other industry requirements.
  • Design and develop test fixtures and equipment for efficient production and validation testing.
  • Write and maintain test software using appropriate programming languages and tools.
  • Ownership and accountability for quality and reliability of the test process.
  • Work closely with product designers to understand product specifications and ensure testability.
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis using 6σ methodology to assess stability, bias, repeatability, and reproducibility of the test environment.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers to develop and optimize test processes for safety, quality, and delivery, and cost.
  • Provide input during new product design reviews to influence product design for testability and manufacturability.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and recommend process improvements.
  • Optimize test procedures to reduce cycle time, improve yield, and enhance overall test efficiency.
  • Maintain and update test equipment and processes to align with technological advancements and best practices.
  • Performs risk assessments to identify and mitigate weakness in the testing process.
  • Functional understanding of automation tools and AI to problem solve for labour inefficiencies.
  • Define clear goals for all aspects of a product test and develop steps for their proper execution
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for test fixtures, equipment, and procedures.
  • Ensure all test processes comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Train production and engineering teams on the proper use of test equipment and systems, including troubleshooting and resolving test related issues during the new product introduction phase.

 Requirements and Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field; advanced training in test software platforms preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on test engineering experience within an electronics manufacturing company.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing test systems and processes that conform to UL and CSA requirements, and other Canadian safety standards.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train and guide test technicians and collaborate effectively across various departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Project development with solid understanding of protocols, standards, and product specifications to plan and execute test development activities.
  • Advanced understanding and experience with software engineering, customer experience and product design architecture.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with various operating systems and backend programming.
  • Professional work experience in analyzing and testing computer hardware and software, with strong technical skills in network protocols and test methodologies.
